Wisdom Teeth Surgical Extraction

Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure to remove one or more wisdom teeth (four adult permanent teeth in the back corner of the mouth, above and below).

If a wisdom tooth has no room to grow (an affected wisdom tooth) and you develop pain, infection, or other dental problems, extraction may be necessary.

To prevent potential future problems, some dentists and oral surgeons recommend removing wisdom teeth, even if the affected tooth is not currently causing problems.

Affected wisdom teeth can:

  • Growing obliquely toward the nearest tooth (second molar)
  • Stretch diagonally towards the back of the mouth
  • It grows at right angles to the other teeth, as if the wisdom tooth “rests” on the jawbone.
  • It grows straight up and down like other teeth but remains trapped in the jawbone

Gum Lift

A gum lift (also called a gingivectomy) is a cosmetic dental procedure that lifts and reshapes the gum line. This procedure reshapes the tissue and/or underlying bone to create the appearance of longer or symmetrical teeth for a more beautiful smile.

Receding gums is sometimes called gum contouring surgery or gum reshaping. This procedure is used for medical and cosmetic reasons to restore a person’s gum line and restore normal coverage of teeth.

Advantages:

  • Improve the esthetics of the anterior teeth
  • Minimal soft tissue removal is required
  • Does not interfere with periodontal tissue
  • It can correct an uneven gingival zenith (the most pointed part of the free gingiva)
  • May lengthen crown height (which is important for tooth wear)
  • Reduces the visible amount of maxillary gingiva
  • Both subgingival and supragingival restorations are available
  • Allows for additional tooth structure to withstand the mechanical demands of restorative procedures

Laser Surgery

LASER stands for “Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation”.

Using lasers in dentistry is advanced, safe, and highly effective. Lasers are ideal for precisely removing or reshaping soft tissue while sealing exposed blood vessels. Laser technology helps reduce or eliminate bleeding and provides a more sterile treatment area.

Laser technology is a sophisticated and versatile treatment that emits a narrow, focused beam of light energy. The light reacts when it hits soft tissue and can be adjusted or removed.

The advantages of laser technology are:

  • Reduced treatment time.
  • Promotes faster healing/recovery.
  • Reduces bleeding during and after surgery and eliminates the need for suturing.
  • Reduces or eliminates scarring with less damage to surrounding tissue.
  • Reduce post-operative swelling and discomfort
  • As the light beam sterilizes the area along the way, bacteria are reduced at the surgical site, minimizing the risk of infection.
